Ruth M. Castellanos Rivera, Ph.D., is the Director of Translational Science on the Development team at StrideBio. Dr. Castellanos transitioned into her current position in the gene therapy industry after completing postdoctoral training with StrideBio Co-founder Aravind Asokan, Ph.D. at the University of North Carolina (UNC) School of Medicine Gene Therapy Center. During her training, she explored transport mechanisms utilized by recombinant adeno-associated viral vectors in the central nervous system, with a particular focus on aging and Alzheimer’s disease models. She was supported by a National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute postdoctoral diversity supplement award during her three years at UNC, where she co-authored seven publications in peer-reviewed journals including Science, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and Nature Medicine. Dr. Castellanos earned her doctorate in Biology from University of Virginia. Her dissertation focused on the pathophysiology of kidney disease, particularly the role of RBP-J in regulation of renin cell identity and plasticity. Ruth completed her post-baccalaureate program at the University of California, Los Angeles and was a recipient of the National Science Foundation Model Institutions for Excellence Scholarship at Universidad Metropolitana, Cupey in Puerto Rico, where she obtained her undergraduate degree.
